Tour details
Goree Island Half Day Visit
Even if you have only a little time to spend in Dakar, Goree Island is always worth a visit. This island is one of the most interesting places in Dakar, with something for everyone; whether you are interested in meeting local people, nature, history, architecture, museums, take a swim, find a nice place to wander about or, of course, find out about slavery.
A visit to the Maison des Esclaves, the memorial monument to slavery with the guns on which Victor Schölcher sat to celebrate the law officially ending slavery, will definitely open your mind towards this period.
The following lists out the itinerary of the tour:
- Boarding on Chaloupe (ferry)
- Fort d'Estrée, Université des Mutants, North side, Sea Museum, Mosquee, Castel, Church Saint charles Borromée, Maison des esclaves, African Women's Museum, marketplace
- boarding on Chaloupe back to Dakar.
Participant guidelines
This day tour can't be operated for big groups, with six people being a maximum. You shall wear decent clothes; no shorts, especially for women, and a tourist-like look should be avoided. Discretion should be shown while carrying and using a camera. Flaunting expensive clothes, equipment, jewellery or the like may be considered as an insult to the rather poor economic conditions of the locals.
